WIKI?... as in REUBEN Wiki???

Before this exercise I didn' t really know anything about Wikis. The only Wiki I knew of was Reuben Wiki! lolSo doing this exercise was good as it got me reading materials about wikis.

From all that reading - I've discovered that you don't have to be a pro in html speech to use or create a wiki. The information on a wiki can be edited by lots of people not just the person who created it. My only concern with wikis is that if they are been edited and added to by many people... if you're not a librarian.... how do you know that the information is reliable?

I saw lots of examples of how wikis can be used by libraries and they all seemed to be good ideas. I particularly like the idea of libraries creating a wiki for the community - where it would be one stop shop for community information. With the input of the commuity, it could be become whatever the community needs it to be.

Could our current Library Community Database be turned into a wiki? I could see that in doing so, would make it easier for people in our community to input their own information about their groups or organisation etc... It would also mean that the information on the database would be kept up to date (if each community / group take responsibility to update the information) and it would mean less forms for to fil in.

Just a thought.
